Devotion from D.L. Moody:
Scripture: "Under His shadow" Song of Sol. ii.3.
Frances Ridley Havergal says: I seem to see four pictures suggested by that: under the shadow of a rock in a weary plain; under the shadow of a tree; closer still, under the shadow of His wing; nearest and closest, in the shadow of His hand. Surely that hand must be the pierced hand, that may oftentimes press us sorely, and yet evermore encircling, upholding and shadowing!
Test for Self-Evaluation:
Am I thoughtful in expressing 'thanks' to people for what they've done for me, no matter how insignificant it seems?
Just back from a relaxing trip to sunny, yet cold Florida. Yes, I go south where warm is the norm and freeze warnings for central Florida were prominent. As I reflect on the week and the devotion for today I am warmed by the thought of God's shadow encircling and bringing me peace in the midst of His shadow. I also contemplate the warmth one experiences when they receive a kind word of appreciation. May we all take time each day to seek out one person to share in the experience of the shadow. -BK

Here is another email newsletter I received from Joes White that again really touched my heart, so I wanted to pass it along...
ReplyDelete"What a privilege to write to you again! I am honored to get to correspond with college students all over the nation and share our hearts for the glory of God! I can't imagine how busy you are with crazy schedules and building relationships there at school. You are at such a fun time in your life and there is so much ahead of you!
Do you remember when you were just a kid? Remember being a small child with such a big imagination and curiosity for life? Do you ever wish you were a kid again with such little worries and cares? Life was a ton easier, wasn't it? No bills and hardly any stress!
So often I feel like a kid again when I think about the power, might, strength, awesomeness and overall "bigness" of our Daddy. He is HUGE and is the most powerful King of the entire Universe. If that doesn't make you feel small sometimes then I don't know what will! It is so easy to look at His vastness and think, "Why would He love me? Why would He care? Why do I matter to Him?" Sometimes we feel too small to exist.
I think you will be blown away by what this 12 year old has to say. This little guy that I have never even met has rocked my world! Will you take a minute and click on this link? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCdZwitrNoY
What did you think? WOW?!?! Logan had lost one of his most prized processions. It was an animal that he had fed every day, played with and watched grow. Now, he has had to take its life by himself. Can't you imagine that as he went back to the house, ran up to his room and sat there in tears that he felt small and alone? This was a big hurt in his world! Have you ever experienced a hurt in your life so big that you thought no one could understand it, no one could help you and no one really even cares?
Instead of staying in that mindset though and wallowing in his grief, what did Logan do? He cried out to God and heard Him speak to him. He thought about the sacrifice God made by sending His one and only Son to die the most excruciating death. He thought of the pain God must have felt and the selflessness that mighty act took. The realization that God knew how he felt, understood his tears and cared with all of His heart was such a comfort and peace to Logan. He was not alone!
He didn't just stop there though. Once he felt that comfort and peace he didn't keep it to himself and lavish in the love of God alone. He called the RADIO STATION!!! He told his entire community through the radio! And then, God blessed his heart and desire to spread joy and what did God do? He moved in the hearts of the radio personnel and they aired it online! It has been passed through email after email and is on YouTube! He told the whole world!!! All because of a child-like heart inside of a 12 year old boy that chose to think about Jesus and the sacrifice of the Father in his time of pain.
Matthew chapter 18 verses 1-3 says, "At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' And He called a child to Himself and set him before them and said, 'Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven." Why like a child? Because a child has humility, innocence, and is full of faith and trust. We must lessen ourselves and be more trusting; placing more faith into the Lord and His plans, purposes, love, comfort and promises.
I want to encourage you to have a child-like heart and to remember that your Heavenly Daddy loves you with all He has! He cares about you and wants the best for you! "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 10: 29-32)
You are loved and you are never alone!
