Immersion Only Please

In the tradition I was raised; baptism by immersion was the only way to go and any other method (pour or sprinkle) just seemed to not get the job done quite as well. I remember adults who had been baptised in other faiths had to be put under as if a spot still remained. One of the arguments for immersion was "we want to do it like Jesus did" this has also been a point given when discussing the sacrament of communion. My point of thought and discussion today is why will we fight to the death over the methods of baptism wanting to do it like Jesus did and yet not give a care about living like Jesus did?

  1. I agree with you, Pastor Bill, I get so fed up of people thinking "it's their way or the highway." I am so thankful that I was raised in a Christian home, going to church every Sunday and being baptised when I was one month old. Why wait for such a beautiful gift if you don't have to? But that doesn't mean I don't agree with other forms of baptism. I think that immersion is a very symbolic way to be baptised and to show that you are a completely changed person. I just don't understand how someone can say it's the only right way, especially since it says nowhere in the bible how and when we should be baptised. If God didn't find it important enough to be written down, why do we get so caught up on it when we compare ourselves with other denominations? I will NEVER be re-baptised in order to join another church. I'm pretty sure God got it right the first time!
